November 13, 2008

Ryan’s Steakhouse on Lauren’s Road (Motor Mile) in Greenville.
Eat from 6 to 7. Meeting from 7 to 8:30.

Next Thursday night, we will have our dinner meeting with updates on southeastern motorsports events, sell and swap shop, and other regular features. Todd Owenby will be reporting on upcoming autocross events and Scott Franklin will be updating us on road racing events. A representative from the Clemson Sports Car Club will be on hand to tell us about their autocross in Anderson, SC on November 9th. (It’s not too late to sign up!) We have a great cross section or road racers, autocrossers, time trailers, rallycrossers, tuners and people that just love cars! You will enjoy networking with people with a common passion for all things with 4 wheels. If you know of any car shows or events in the area in the coming months, please bring the information to the meeting. Thanks!

Our speaker for the evening will be Michael Mitchell. Michael is the Curator of the BWM Car Club of America Foundation. Both the BMW CCA and the BMW CCA Foundation are headquartered in Greenville, SC. Michael started with the Foundation in 2002 and he has been full-time with the Foundation since 2006. He is over the Foundation’s Archives, and works directly with Bill Wade, the Foundation’s Tire Rack Street Survival Director. Michael’s motorsports interests include autocross, rallies and concours, and event photography.

Michael will be speaking on the Tire Rack Street Survival® school program which is sponsored by Tire Rack, BMW, BMW Car Club of America and Sports Car Club of America. TRSS is a safe teen program designed to go beyond today’s required driver’s education and give teens across the U.S. the driving tools and hands-on experience to become safer, smarter drivers. Trained and qualified in-car driving instructors are provided as well as classroom experience for each student. The reports we received from the TRSS training done in Charleston this year by SC Region showed it was helpful, fun and productive for the students AND the volunteers who helped run the event.

Last year, over 5,000 teenagers died in motor vehicle crashes, the leading killer of American youths aged 16 to 19, accounting for more than 40 percent of fatalities in that age bracket. To reduce this number, Tire Rack Street Survival® has developed a non-profit, national driver education program aimed at teaching teens the skills they need to stay alive behind the wheel. http://www.streetsurvival.org/index.php

SCCA Central Carolinas is working with SWCCCR to put on a TRSS training school here in the upstate next spring. We will discuss after the meeting how you may be able to help in making this event happen and making a difference right here where we live. Todd has taken the initiative to begin this project and we appreciate his efforts.

Please bring a friend and introduce them to our SWCCCR group. We look forward to seeing a good turn out. Thanks for your support!. Questions? Ideas for speakers or vendors? Items for Sale? Write me at tedagmar@juno.com

Hi, I am Dave McKenzie. I have lived in Matthews for 19 years with my wife Jill and have 2 sons, Tim and Jon, who have also autocrossed with CCR. I am a pharmacist for Giant Genie Pharmacy in Charlotte. I starting autocrossing 5 years ago and have been a regular since. I am finishing up my second year on the board and also as CCR Solo Chairman. In my first year we did 9 pts events, 2 test and tunes, a novice and intermediate school, the first extended hour charity event for our club at least since I have been around, an autocross at CMP’s road course and co-sponsored a divisional event with Triad, plus competed in the 2 day NCAC. This years events include 9 pts events, a novice school, extended hour charity event, a two day battle with SCR, sponsored the NCAC, a test and tune, and completed the first 6 event night series. Carowinds Amusement Park has also been added as an autorossing site for our club and we have a pts event coming up there plus another charity event in December. We finally have the club finances in order and have been upgrading the timing system and have purchased a trailer for the club. We have worked hard to make all phases of the clubs racing profitable and fun for the club members. I would like your vote to continue the work on the board of CCR.
Thank you,
Dave

I am 34 years old and reside in Charlotte, NC. I am married with an 18 month old daughter. I’ve lived here since 1993 and really don’t plan on living anywhere else.

I graduated from Davidson College in 1997 and have an international MBA from the University of South Carolina. I have worked for Bank of America, Continental Tire and Sonic Automotive. My current occupation is operations manager at a small privately held export company headquartered in Charlotte, NC. I have been doing accounting and operations management there since 2007.

My experience autocrossing with SCCA dates back to 2002 when I acquired a Nissan Sentra SE-R. I competed with this car until 2007 when I co-drove a 350Z with Tony Ignatz and now drive a Mitsubishi Evolution in STU. In terms of leadership, I have various experience with autocross operations. I filled in as event chair at the second half of the last 24 hour event and for one of the Folger Knights Thursday series. Additionally, I’ve been worker steward, help run the online forum and am trying to start duties as novice chief.

I feel I have the qualifications and experience to successfully serve as a CCR board member. My job history and education could potentially fill certain board needs. I am already acquaintances with several current board members and know many of my fellow autocross drivers and other CCR members by first name. I also take a great interest in time trials and road racing and look forward to participating by working or competing in these events next season.

Thanks for taking time to read my short bio and I appreciate your consideration.

As a member of the Central Carolinas Region, Sports Car Club of America since 1976, I have been fortunate to be able to have involvement and the pleasure of competing in all the venues offered by CCR. As a new member, in my initial years of membership, I became a Club Racing worker and saw a first rate team of Race staff in action and learned a lot about what can be done with the help of involved membership. Autocross was my primary interest at the time, but after hundreds of Solo II (now SOLO) events, wanted more excitement and stepped up my participation level. As Solo chair, I conducted the first CCR 24 hour Autocross which has continued until today. During the early 1980s, I chaired the first CCR Flat Track SOLO I (Track Trial) and during that time period several SEDiv Solo championships.
Over the years, as time allowed while raising my two sons Geoffrey and Corey, along with honoring my military commitments, my wife Lisa and I have enjoyed the Social activities and comradery of club events and that I believe is what makes this club special. After completing my college programs and leaving the parties and social activities behind, I realized that there should be more to my life than the outlook of just the daily work routine. That’s what CCR can offer with the right mix of hobby racing pursuit and just “hanging out” with friends.
My reason for running for re-election for the CCR BOD, is driven by an interest in maximizing the potential of all the club’s automotive
competition activities while ensuring that the financial condition of the region is healthy.

I am 43 years old and live in Fletcher NC. I own a manufacturing plant in Weaverville NC specializing in metal stampings for the automotive and home electrical industries. I also run Triple E Performance which specializes in prototype driveline products for the racing industry.

I started autocrossing in 1981 and progressed to Solo 1 (TT today) and road racing. I have competed and trophied at Solo Nationals. My wife Vicki and I continue to participate in Hillclimbs and the road race program. I understand and support all the programs SCCA has to offer.

I currently serve as the assistant RE for CCRSCCA. In my time on the BOD we have replaced all the outdated radio equipment, purchased all new wireless timing equipment for TT and AX, scales for the road race program, and a new club trailer for AX and club promotion. We have managed this while placing the club back in strong financial shape. We have eliminated events that lost money and practice fiscal responsibility in all decisions for the members. I am proud of the work we have done to revive the TT and Hillclimb programs in our region. This year we added a new chapter in Greenville to better serve our border members.

Our region is growing because of the work of a lot of dedicated people. If you like this direction I would appreciate your vote.

Best Regards
Steve Eckerich
CCRSCCA Asst. RE
